Dyson: Worth the hype?

Before I took the plunge on this *expensive* tool, I did a ton of research to ensure it could potentially be a smart purchase.

I spent the last few days toying around with different ways to use it, and after a lot of trial and error, I think I'm going to keep it!

So, top question- is the Dyson Airwrap worth it? Stay tuned.

About the Airwrap:

One of the coolest things about the Dyson Airwrap is that it essentially defied everything we thought we knew about styling hair. Convention says that you need heat (and a lot of it too) to dry, smooth, and curl hair. But the scientists and engineers at Dyson figured out a way to harness airflow, specifically something called the Coanda effect, to style hair without much heat at all.

Unlike more traditional styling tools that maintain a temperature of over 400° Fahrenheit (200° Celsius), the Airwrap constantly monitors the heat of its airflow to ensure that it never exceeds 302° Fahrenheit (150° Celsius). This helps prevent the Airwrap from exposing your hair to too much direct heat and damaging it.

It works best on 80-90% dry hair, which is something I didn't know at first and I couldn't understand why my hair fell after 10 minutes of effort! I researched how to properly use the Dyson, and discovered you either need a spritzer bottle to dampen hair before use, or to use after you have your hair blow dried 80%.

One of the things I love most about this product is the "all-in-one" feature aspect. It makes it super easy to travel with it and to just pop on different attachments depending on what you need.

Once I discovered the proper usage of this product, I started with wet hair fresh out of the shower and took my hair from stage 1 to stage 4 with all four attachments so that I could give a proper review.

The pre-styling dryer attachment will help take your hair from soaking wet to barely damp, but it doubles as an amazing travel blow-dryer too. Once you're done with that, pop on a new attachment: either the soft or firm smoothing brush, volumizing round brush, or one of four curling barrels.

The Verdict:

Before Dyson, my hair would take about 1.5 hours to take from wet to dry which is just insanity. I would HATE showering my hair because it took eons and my arms were so tired haha.

Once I started using the Dyson dryer and attachments, my entire process to dry & curl my hair took less than 40 minutes total (which normally for both drying and curling it would have been 2 hours). My hair feels incredibly healthy while using this product and I feel like the dryer alone has saved my ends from being fried.

I'm still toying around with the different types of curls you can have with this product, I've done beach style waves and I just wrap my hair by hand around the Dyson instead of allowing it to wrap itself. I need to play around with the "standard" method of using the Dyson a bit more to get the curls just right without looking like prom or pageant hair!

So, is it worth it?

Depending on who you ask and the type of person- and here is what I mean by that.

It's a serious investment product- this thing is $550 which is just insane!

If you are someone who is concerned about heat on hair and wants an "all in one" tool, this is absolutely worth it in my opinion. My hair has truly never felt healthier!

It's not worth it if you don't want the learning curve of this item (it is complicated to master at first) and if you like your current curling wand and process. I also wouldn't recommend it for someone just looking to cut down on dry and styling time because it still does take anywhere from 20 minutes-45 minutes.

I've decided to keep the product for myself, but I'm curious to hear what you decided to do if you bought this product! Did you keep or return? Do you have any tips and tricks for mastering?

X,

Style and Steph
